FEEDBACK

The interesting thing about top sportspeople and artists is that they all employ people to give them feedback. They seek and receive constant constructive criticism of their performance. In our everyday practice we rarely receive feedback and find it difficult to give feedback to others.

The reasons we don’t get or give much feedback are to do with lack of time, to some extent. However, the big impediments are social ones: we don’t have the language to describe performance easily and we (perhaps as a consequence) find giving feedback (particularly negative feedback) socially awkward.

The thing that marks simulation out from other experiences in healthcare is that we expect to receive feedback.
