GAPS Governance: Governance Framework

Introduction

The following is a set of standards for activity and course development and delivery, faculty and evaluation which should be met for all of our work. We should be able to measure and report compliance with these standards. The process of setting standards, measuring adherence to them, realigning activity and reviewing and revising standards is the essential process of governance and is the responsibility of the Governance Committee. The Governance Committee will meet twice per year. Interim decisions may be made by the Governance Executive, a sub-group of the Governance Committee. Interim decisions will be reviewed and ratified or reversed by the next meeting of the full Committee.

General Standards

  1. All educational activity carried out in the GAPS facility or on behalf of GAPS will be expected to be part of the GAPS Governance Framework.
  2. All educational activity carried out in the GAPS facility or on behalf of GAPS, those participating in its delivery and learners should comply with the GAPS Standards of Conduct document.
  3. All educational activity carried out in the GAPS facility or on behalf of GAPS should have a written, formal educational framework document which should be filed with GAPS administration.
  4. All educational activity carried out in the GAPS facility or on behalf of GAPS should have an evaluation framework. Each course participant should complete a course evaluation form and the completed forms should be tabulated and retained by GAPS administration.
  5. All educational activity carried out in the GAPS facility or on behalf of GAPS which is recurring should be subject to regular evaluative review including peer review.
  6. Each course or other educational activity should have a specified educational lead who is responsible for the educational integrity of the activity. This individual will be appropriately qualified and will be responsible for the educational integrity of other faculty members.
  7. Courses or other educational activities should be costed and a mechanism for funding agreed with GAPS administration.

Course Standards

  1. Courses conducted on behalf of an external educational body must have approval from the Governance Committee (or, as an interim, the Governance Executive) as being appropriate and of an acceptable standard.
  2. Approved external courses conducted on behalf of an external educational body must be delivered at a standard which meets those of GAPS and those of the external body.
  3. Internal courses must have an educational design approved by the GAPS Governance Committee (or, as an interim, the Governance Executive).
  4. Courses will be facilitated by an appropriately experienced and trained faculty.
